This all-encompassing audio install covers all bases (no pun intended) and has brought this customer’s cherished van into a completely new light with a transformed audio system which sounds incredible and is all discreetly hidden purposefully to retain the original look of the vehicle.
Here’s what the customer said…
“Great to see you and the team earlier and a MASSIVE thank you for all the work on my van. It is insane! The sound deadening is also immediately noticeable and changes the feeling to more car, rather than van-like. I can’t wait to spend many hours driving now and listening to the new system.“

Next, we worked on fitting the Voce II component speakers in the front doors; removing the factory speakers and installing the mid-bass units in the doors, which are connected to accompanying Audison Voce II tweeters that we install on the dashboard in the factory locations to complete the component set-up. We have also installed size-specific silicone water guards to protect these lovely speakers from water damage.

We upgraded the radio unit to the Alpine Halo 11 digital media receiver which already features an internal class D amplifier, but, in keeping with our Audison set-up, we have hooked this up to an 8 channel Audison Forza DSP amplifier. This is a great addition to the system that allows for full control and fine tuning over how the speakers behave, letting you customise the audio output to your preference and most of all create the all-important sound stage.

For dedicated bass, we have built a custom made 10” MDF, carpeted subwoofer box to house the Audison 10” single voice coil subwoofer, and accommodated for the limited space under the front seat where it was installed. This subwoofer will handle the majority of the low frequencies and provide the very important bass which will completely fill the vehicle.

Finally, we created a custom alcantara mount for the Audison bit controller in the glove box to allow for master volume, subwoofer, bass, treble, balance and presets control!

Following this, we began fitting the audio equipment! Starting in the back of the van we installed the Audison Voce II coaxial speakers and crossovers in replacement of the factory Transporter speakers, using a Dremel tool to file down the speaker rings to fit the new units securely and neatly. These speakers feature the tweeter embedded in the centre of the woofer and have external crossovers that direct frequencies to the appropriate driver.

After stripping out the entire front section of the vehicle, we applied the 2mm Silent Coat on the exterior and interior panels of the front two doors along with a 15mm noise absorber to fully secure the area surrounding the front speakers.
We covered the rear panels as well as sections of the roof in the 2mm sound deadening before a foam noise isolator was placed on top of the this for extra coverage in the front cabin as well as on the inside of the sliding doors and rear panels for additional support around the rear speakers.

Are Older Vehicles Worth Spending Money On?

New cars in this day and age all seem to come with an array of impressive features to assist you with your driving experience, from driving and safety products, to comfort accessories such as audio systems, parking cameras & remote locking access.
But to some, brand new cars aren’t always entirely appealing. Whether that be because you’re not a fan of the ultra-modern look, the obscene price tags and increasing unreliability, or because you have a particular love and appreciation for your older, but well looked after model – we understand where you’re coming from.
So, to all of you out there, the question stands: “Is it really worth modernising my vehicle with new tech?“
The answer is; yes, absolutely.
There are countless reasons as to why you might want to keep a currently owned car rather than trading it in just for the latest make and model. This can be attributed to a variety of factors such as having fond memories with the car, attachment through sentimental value, its rarity or specification, fondness of the vehicle’s character / personality or pride; especially if you have already put time and money into it and don’t want to part ways.
For this particular customer, he had a receipt for every single purchase and repair made to the van since new. He knew its history through and through and this familiarity was not worth giving up and worth its weight in gold.
Our background in retrofits:
We specialise in retrofits – adding equipment that was not installed when the vehicle was manufactured. This makes us professionals at bringing new life to your beloved vehicles.
With our retrofits, we can bring the comfort, safety, security and convenience features in your vehicle to the next level. We offer cutting-edge technology in all of these respective areas that will completely modernise your vehicle no matter what avenue you decide to go down – removing the unnecessary need to buy a new vehicle.
Over the last 23 years of trading, we have become specialists at what we do. We answer hundreds of contact forms every month with enquiries to upgrade vehicles with retrofits. We strongly feel that we provide for our customers personally and individually with the same level of care and respect for every job, no matter the vehicle or upgrade being fitted. This allows us to sleep at night with a clear conscience knowing that we’ve provided a transparent and honest service.
This can be attributed to the fact that we listen to our customers – and cater to them accordingly the absolute best we can.
Your needs are our top priority from the moment you get in contact with us, to during the installation process & post installation, which we feel sets us apart from most other businesses, who are happy to take your money and aren’t available should any issues arise.
To us, our work is more than about just turning a profit. Successfully upgrading vehicles to an unparalleled standard and seeing happy customers walk out of the door is the reason we come to work everyday (our pay-check at the end of the month also helps)! To attest to this, just check our 550+ FIVE star reviews on Google and 565+ FIVE star reviews on Trustpilot!
T5.1 Case Study:
In this blog, we’re taking a look at a recent upgrade we carried out on a 2012 VW T5.1 van — this time focusing purely on sound. Alongside the Alpine Halo 11 media system, we installed a top-tier Audison audio system that has completely transformed the in-vehicle audio experience, including the new (at the time) Audison Voce II line of coaxial and component speakers!
The new setup includes a powerful combination of components: coaxial door speakers, component speakers with tweeters and crossovers, a 10” subwoofer, and a DSP/processor amplifier. All of this has been perfectly complemented with extensive sound deadening treatment throughout the interior to complete the immersive sound stage.

To ensure the new system performs at its best, we applied multiple layers of sound deadening material throughout the van. Silent Coat mats were used to help dampen vibrations and eliminate echoes or reverberations that can blur and affect the sound. On top of that, sound absorber materials were added to soak up unwanted background noise from wiring looms, connectors, fixtures etc — leaving behind only the sounds you want to hear: clean audio.
In order to install the system correctly and apply the soundproofing, our workshop technicians had to extensively disassemble the van’s interior. This included removing:
-
- Front and rear quarter panels and associated trims
- Driver and passenger door panels
- Driver and passenger seats
- Footwell carpeting & rear flooring
- A-pillar, B-pillar, C-pillar trims
- Front roof lining
- Rear bench seat
This gave us full access to the OEM speaker locations and the areas where we needed to mount additional components and apply sound treatment.

A 4mm Silent Coat was used on the floor of the cabin covering the footwell and under the front seats.
